A few weeks ago while driving home from work, I was listening to the news on the radio. They were talking about Sunions, a tearless sweet onion. It really peaked my interest! I hate chopping onions and have tried everything from chewing bubble gum to wearing goggles while chopping to avoid those tears.
So the thought of no longer having to cry was really appealing to me. I started researching the company and found that they have been at this for over 30 years perfecting their onions and ensuring that they are truly tear free. 30 years! That’s almost as long as I have been around. What was even more appealing is that they are also Non-GMO! I decided I had to try them. So I contacted them to see how I could get my hands on them and they sent me a box to try out and share my experience with all of you! We decided to really put them to the test and bring you guys along for the ride. For the actual test, we brought the Sunion and a regular store bought onion head to head and were blown away by the results.
Now, while chopping traditional onions, I do everything I can to avoid tearing up. First I usually leave the root in place and try to keep the bulb as undisturbed as possible (it still doesn’t always work). But for the sake of really testing the Sunions effectiveness, I decided to toss all caution to the wind and chop the root completely off as well as slice right through the bulb. I then took my time and finely chopped the Sunion. And amazingly, there were ZERO tears! So then I thought okay…no tears…but how do they taste? They are excellent! Slightly sweet but full of onion flavor. Definitely what I look for in my onions.
For the competitor, I followed the same chopping techniques, chopping off the root and slicing right through the bulb and immediately I noticed my eyes starting to feel the burn. Once I started finely chopping the onion my eyes began to water and by the end, my eyes were on fire as well as my throat! A huge difference from the Sunion!
With offering the same taste without the tears, I will definitely be reaching for the Sunions from now on! But you guys check it out for yourself and let me know what you think! You can visit their website to see if they are in your local area, visit www.iheartsunions.com
